As the 6D has not been released yet I wish to just get an idea about the key differences between the 6D and 5D mkIII. This camera will be used predominantly for landscape work. The one thing I noticed that in my opinion is an advantage for the 6D is lack of aliasing filter. Considering the 5d mkIII has a filter I am wondering if this helps with

I know this topic is long dead, but somehow I was searching more comparisons at night shooting scenario between 6d vs 5dm3 and came across that topic (also in this forums here). I think that below article comparing 6d to 5dm3 (and later also to 5dm2) at iso 3200 & 6400 with 15 sec & 30 sec exposur
I'm astonished that Canon continues to peddle their soft mushy DLSR video, while Panasonic, Sony, and even Nikon produce vastly superior video quality. I still love my Canon equipment (1Dx and 5D-MkIII), but definitely not for video. Sorry if any Canon users are offended by this.
As for your question, if youve got the money, the 5D IV is the way I would go. Better sensor, resolution, joy stick, dual card slots, are just a few things that make it a no brainer (for me at least). Coming from a crop sensor to the full frame sensor equivalent to the 5d IV, I am blown away by how high I can push the ISO and still retain quality.
. The one issue this ignores is the amount of time necessary to create an exposure. I tested a 5D II and tested it against the 60Da for astrophotography and was blown away by the difference. The filter on the 60Da is so much better (filter. not sensor) that the 60Da can capture an image in substan
One thing is certain in the OP's question comparing 6d to 5d3 for long exposure night photography: This kind of photography renders the 5d3's expensive AF completely unnecessary. If this kind of work, and/or things like portraits, landscape, candids, macro, travel, are the main part of your usage, y
The 20MP Canon EOS 6D is Canon's smallest, lightest and most affordable full-frame DSLR yet, aimed at enthusiast photographers. As well as a newly developed CMOS sensor the 6D features an 11-point autofocus system with a single cross-type point at the center of the array, which can achieve focus down to -3EV, which is little more than moonlight.
The 6D would be an upgrade from the 5D, even compared to the 5D MK II. In low light noise the 6D even has an edge over the 5D MK III, but it is really splitting hairs, but the 6D features are less than the 5D MK III and the 6D with only one SD memory card slot and requires using the menu system to change white balance, so not as easy with buttons to quickly access some features.
